There are many ways to deploy cloud services to meet your business challenges. ManageEngine has a variety of platforms and solutions to meet those requirements. From remote working to service desk, desktop management, network monitoring and IT security. But just what is the best way to deploy and provision ManageEngine applications as cloud services?
There has been a seismic shift in the way we do business. More and more companies are having to embrace the ability to manage and support a remote workforce whilst maintaining links with streamlined offices. A great deal of this flexibility has been made possible through the on-going virtualisation of the IT infrastructures over many years, and the availability of commercial cloud architectures. No longer are businesses completely tied to physical IT infrastructures and network equipment. And this shift in IT provision is only going to continue for the foreseeable future.
So just what do we mean actually mean by ‘cloud’? This largely depends on your perspective and what you are hoping to achieve when implementing a cloud service.
Full cloud: ManageEngine have a range of services that a client can simply register for and instantly access. The application is fully delivered and maintained on ManageEngine’s own servers and network architecture at their global data centres. The client simply logs on via a standard internet browser over the public internet and configures the application for the desired operation. Such cloud services include ServiceDesk Plus, Patch Manager Plus, Mobile Device Manager, Desktop Central and Site24x7.
Whilst full cloud service offer a number of distinct attractions it should be noted that to achieve full application functionality it is often necessary to maintain certain on-premise services and to deploy on-premise agent or poller software.
Private cloud: The ability to create and manage a private cloud space has been greatly simplified through the expansion in service and provision from commercial ‘cloud’ platforms such as Amazon AWS or Micosoft Azure. Customers can now realistically manage and maintain their own virtual private ‘cloud’ infrastructure without the need to site physical equipment.
To assist in provisioning a private cloud space ManageEngine offer a number of pre-packaged deployments for their on-premise software applications as part of the AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplaces.
Hybrid: Increasingly the hybrid model is the ‘de-facto’ mode of operation. Where appropriate clients are transitioning what are regarded as ‘standard’ services to full cloud provision; take the increase in popularity in services such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 as an example. For more bespoke, legacy and critical systems customers may choose to continue to maintain these in their own data centres or opt for commercial private cloud space where they can maintain a greater degree of control over the architecture.
Whichever route you may take in deploying cloud services its good to know that ManageEngine also provide a range of monitoring and management solutions to help you look after your cloud investment.
